Congratulations to Gabriel Dansereau for spearheading a collaborative paper, Dansereau et al. (2025), in Trends in Ecology and Evolution.
In this paper we discuss the persistent gap between the study of species interaction networks and their practical use in biodiversity conservation and management. Despite the wealth of theory on network structure, robustness and stability, this knowledge is rarely translated into indicators or tools that conservation practitioners can actually use. We review this disconnect and propose ways forward for embedding network-level information into biodiversity monitoring and decision-making, with a practical example using network robustness as an intretable and readily usable metric for large assessments of network stability to environmental change.
