Congratulations to Gabriel Dansereau on the publication of his latest paper, Dansereau, Barros and Poisot (2024), in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences.
The paper tackles a central challenge in ecological network research: species interaction data are sparse and unevenly sampled across space, making it hard to predict food web structure in regions that have not been directly surveyed. We show how regional-level metaweb data can be combined with spatial models to generate spatially explicit predictions of food web structure, while also accounting for ecological uniqueness across ecoregions.
This work contributes to a growing effort to make species interaction networks more useful as monitoring and conservation tools, extending predictions beyond the specific sites where interactions have been observed.
